KWC M4505/4506 Review
By: Cheesehead

Introduction

Way back when, when my “primary” gun was an HFC MP5, I decided to get a side arm, not that I needed one, I just wanted one. I drove to Dunham’s sports, and looked at all the springers in their glass case. I eventually settled on Cybergun M4505.

The M4505 is made By KWC, and Cybergun acquires the trademarks. The gun comes with one spare magazine, a sticky target, some cheapo Cybergun .12-gram BBs, and some even cheapoer .12-gram paintball BBs. I suggest throwing all of the supplied ammo away, as the plastic BBs shatter in the barrel, and the paintballs are horribly deformed.

First Impressions

After liberating the gun from its plastic packaging, the first thing I had to do was rack the slide. The slide pulls back fairly easy, and when you let go; it flies forward under the power of the spring.

Two of the guns more obvious features are the closed ejection port, and the orange tip. The ejection port has what looks like a piece of brushed aluminum under it, but it’s just a sticker. The orange tip is about ¼ of an inch long, and is easily removed using pliers, or you can just let it fly off on it's own, which my brother's did after long term use.

The next thing was studying it. The gun is two colors; black and not as dark black. The slide frame and rubber grip are all black, with the grip being only slightly grayer than the rest of the gun. The slide also has a very nice imiataion parkerizing look to it. The gun has a lot of nice trademarks on it. The mold lines don't detract from the overall look of the gun, as they are well hidden on the top and muzzle of the gun.

The sights on this gun are the classic three-dot style. Two white dots on the rear sight blade, and one on the front post; just line ‘em up and fire. The sights are not adjustable, but you can remove the rear sight if you like that type of thing.

Markings

Because Cybergun imports this gun it has trademark, they are as follows:

Slide Left Side:
Center of slide

Rear of slide
“MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS.”

Slide Right Side:
Warning marking
“WARNING: MISUSE OR UNSAFE USE MAY CAUSE
SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. SALES OF

PERMITTED”

Frame Left Side:
Fake serial number near front of frame
“30647722”

Model number above trigger
“MOD 4506”

Frame Right Side:
“KWC" & "MADE IN TAIWAN PAT P.”

The trademarks.

All the trademarks are stamped into the plastic with the exception of the "KWC" logo, and the "MADE IN TAIWAN PAT P". Some of the stampings are better than others; the warning marking is obnoxiously deep.

Getting A Grip

The pistol sits well in the hand. The bulge on the back of the grip fills your palm nicley, and the checkering feels very nice; not too rough and not too smooth. The frame itself has vertical grooves molded into it, which adds a little extra grip to the gun. The front of the trigger guard has knurling on it, a nice touch for those of you who actually use both hands when shooting. The safety and magazine release are easy to access for both left and right-handed people, though lefties have to slightly reposition their grip.

Up And Functioning

Like all spring pistols, the gun is cocked by pulling the slide back. To de-cock the gun, you can either fire it, or pull the slide back and pull the trigger, while keeping the trigger pulled ease the slide forward. If you have a BB chambered in the second method, it will remain in there.

The slide lock is non-functioning, and as a result, has been converted into the safety lever. The safety on my gun was busted when it was lent out as a loaner. In all honesty, the safety never did seem to provide much resistance, and could easily been broken by a strong pull of the trigger. I blame this on the plastic used in the gun.

The gun fires at an average velocity of 220FPS with a .20-gram BB, with a maximum range of 60 feet, and an effective range of 40-50 feet.

The magazine has a capacity of 12 rounds, and is loaded by pulling down the follower until it locks in place, and then pushing down on the nub at the top of the magazine. You can now pour in the BBs and insert the magazine into the gun. If you pull out the magazine before emptying it, two or tree BBs will fall out of the guns magazine well.

The gun can also be stripped, though this makes the safety useless; ergo I and ASR take no responsibility if you follow my directions and ruin the saftey.
1. Remove the magzine and ensure the gun is not loaded.
2. Take the slide off the gun by removing the two screws at the rear of the slide.
3. Push the safety lever from right to left through the gun.
4. The back of the lever (the part you move) will still be in the gun. Gently pop it out with a slotted screwdriver.
5. Remove the barrel assembly from the gun. Be sure not to lose any pieces.

Complaints And Grievances: A Long Term Report

I have been using this gun for nearly a year and a half now, and it’s showing.

Some time around eight months of ownership, the trigger began squeaking, and this was remedied with some Rem Oil.

After a year and a half, the screw holes in the slide were, how shall I say this, “growing”. After all the use, the holes had enlarged, and now the slide moves back about 1/16 of an inch before it pulls the cocking mechanism along with it. This enlargement problem has also caused the screws to pivot when the slide is racked, further enlarging the holes.

Another problem is the cocking mechanism that the slide screws into on the left side of the gun broke. It cracked out from the screw hole to the back of the gun. I managed to fix it with some LocTite Power Grab. I blame this problem on the soft plastic used in the construction of the gun.

The crack that developed in the cocking mechanism.

[left]Soft plastic is a problem with this gun in other areas too. As mentioned above it causes the issue with the slide, cocking mechanism and safety, and it also gets dented by AEGs pretty easy; I have two dents in the front of the gun from this.

At around one year, the recoil spring was losing some of its zip; there is no cure for this.

Parting Thoughts

At $20, this gun is a good deal if you are an occasional player, or are looking for a loaner gun that has spare magazines available (not to mention included!).

If you plan on playing alot of backyard battles, and need a good primary weapon, this gun is not for you. The plastic will simply wear out too fast.

Pros and Cons

· Feels good in the hand
· Looks sharp
· Full trademarks

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Fits in your hand, cheap, accurate, relatively strong
Cons: soft/weak plastic, safety is really bad and gets broken in feild stripping, low capacity

This is one of my finer spring pistols. Now I myself have the clear version (of the 4506) with red dot sights instead of the regular one. Now one of my favorite things about the gun is the trademarks. The gun itself has a 12 round magazine, the gun, and a small pack of pellets. After loading it up I took it outside to test. I used .12g bbs and chronographed it at around 250 fps. Another nice feature about this gun is the adjustable elevation rear sight.

Overall I found this gun to be an excellent weapon as a sidearm do to its incredible accuracy and low capacity magazine. For all the metal gear solid 3 fans, I found out this gun is basically a .45 ACP cal. of the Mk 22 (S&W model 39) with different sights, a longer barrel, and a higher magazine capacity.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Cheap, nice clips, the lighter weight (I have a small hand), good accuracy
Cons: the plastic cover over the handle poped out of place and the weight on the left side came out when I dropped it (but I got it back in place), little hopup

Really good product, which is my only airsoft gun for actually playing airsoft, I am saving up now, but I have shot many airsoft guns and it really is nice to have.

I play with a friends' gun and I have this as my backup in a holster, with 3 extra clips. I got clear ones from Academy, but one of them DOESN'T CLICK DOWN for the easy load, which makes the clip a difficulty to load (but hey, I got 3 more!). Also, with the safety if you pull the trigger repeatedly it WILL fire, atleast with my gun.

Still, I would recommend this gun for a side arm for the price, and a year later and I don't see any real difference in performance.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Good FPS for springer, sturdy gun, very durable, comes with spare mag, solid feeling rack of slide
Cons: wears out after a lot of use, safety eventually breaks

Ok so I've had 3 of these over the last two years or so, so I know my stuff with them. As of yet I have only ever used spring guns but I have a KWA USP .45 GBB in the mail on it's way. Unfortunetly I don't have it yet so I can't attest to the difference in performance between this and a good GBB.

As far as the spring guns I've fired go, the KWC M4505/6 is amazing. The other spring gun I've owned two of is the P99 (appologies on not knowing the company off hand). When comparing the two guns it is obvious that the P99 doesn't even begin to compare. The M4505 is supremely powerful and more accurate than the P99 I have.

FPS/POWER
I've always liked the M4505 for it's power, even at range. On the box it says that you can shoot 302fps with .12g BB's. I think this is a little high but the accuracy and actual hitting power with the .12's is horrible. I stick to Crosman .2g BB's and they are great. I would estimate they shoot with a muzzle velocity of about 220-230fps based on my experience with paintball guns and how fast they shoot. With the .2g's you will leave a serious welt on someone at 15 feet and can still make a pretty solid red mark at 15 YARDS.
If you shoot at an empty coke can at up to 15ft it will put a nice dent in it and you will always put a hole in a coke can if you hit twice in the same place with this gun under 15ft.

ACCURACY/RANGE
Out if the box the M4505 is extremely accurate even at range. With all three M4505's I've owned they have been able to hit a post 6in wide at 80ft 9 of 12 times. Bear in mind this is with having to rack the slide after every shot and this is when shooting while holding the gun, not with it clamped. I think this is amazing and more than satisfactory for a springer. The downside is that at 80ft you have to be aiming the gun about 5 degrees up from aiming directly at your target in order to lob the shot. 5 degrees up is not bad at all though at 80ft and it's very easy to hit a stationary human target at that range.
My least used M4505 has fired just under 11000 rounds so it is well used now and today I went into my back yard for an accuracy test with the gun having had 11000 rounds through it. I put up a peice of 8.5x11 paper and emptied a clip of 13 rounds at 70ft then 50 then 30 then 10.
At 70ft only 4 of the 13 rounds I fired managed to land on the paper but I was intentionally taking hasty shots in all these tests because in what situation are you going to be firing your gun against a person and have time to aim your shots. On a possative note the 4 rounds that I did land on the paper were within a 7in grouping. (Bear in mind for these tests I'm not a bad shot, especially with this gun).
At 50ft 7 out of 13 rounds landed on the target within 10inches vertically but only 4 inches horizontally. This shows that after 11000 rounds the gun can still shoot consistantly straight side to side but vertical aiming has become harder over time.
At 30ft 13 out of 13 rounds landed on the paper but they were all over the paper. Then at 10ft all 13 rounds landed in a 2 inch grouping with hasty firing.
Finally let me add for accuracy that out of the box the white dot sights work great. So long as you have a steady hand and you're looking down the sights you can literally hit an airsoft pellet on the ground at 10ft. I have done that many times and during the first 1000 rounds you put through the gun it really is that accurate.

MECHANICS
As far as the trigger pull goes, I personally like it. The only comparison I have to another gun is to my P99 to which it is the same and to a real gun. The trigger pull is much lighter than a real gun so as far as I'm concerned it's good.
The slide pull is light if you ask me but some of my friends, not familiar with airsoft guns, don't agree with me.
The safety works well for the first 5000 rounds or so but after that it will release itself if you just pull the trigger a little harder. This is due to the plastic construction of the gun and can be expected from a gun whose price runs between $20 and $35.
My biggest complaint with the gun might be that if you release the mag before expending all your rounds it will drop two BB's out of the mag well. This is minor though and if you ask me the easiest fix for this is just finishing off your mag =P.

PROS
~Durable
~Accurate
~Lasts
~Good FPS for springer
~Fits big hands nicely
~Easy mag release but no so easy you do it by accident

CONS
~safety eventually breaks
~Slide return eventually gets weak
~trigger eventually squeeks a little
~2 BB's fall out of mag well if mag is ejected before all rounds are expended

Overall a good gun that is great for back yard and indoor use. If you want a side arm for skirmishes, don't buy this or any springer. Great gun for those buying a first airsoft gun.

Positive aspects of the product (pros):
Cons:

I swore by a pair of these when I was starting out, and even for a while afterward...heck, I think I'm going to go buy one again today. I've never had any issues with mine in the past, other than the fact that after about a year...they sorta vanished. The M4505 is indeed quite accurate, and for being as cheap as it is, had a nice bit of range. I recall holding up in a barn in a skirmish outside of town, and my rifle was acting up, so I whipped one of these babies out and took out 3 of the opfor. I used to use these against AEGs on a regular basis, and with a bit of luck I could hold my own...for using a springer anyway.
